About Us

The Cambridge Ice Skating Club is a non-profit community sports club based at the Better Cambridge Ice Arena, and affiliated with British Ice Skating.

It was established in March 2022, out of the passion of local patch-ice regulars and coaches for starting a Synchronised Skating programme in Cambridge.

In June 2023, it became the first ice skating club in the UK to host all skating disciplines recognised by British Ice Skating.

Today, it hosts over 200 members across Synchro, Ice Dance, Free and (Short Track) Speed Skating, and our community continues to grow.

From there, it grew. Today, it hosts over 100 members across a variety of ages and abilities, covering Synchro, Ice Dance, Free and Speed Skating. We also host regular community social events.

Community

Every community ice skating club exists in symbiosis with its host rink, but the arrangement of "who offers what" tends to very between localities (and countries!). Our organisation was founded to complement the Cambridge Ice Arena; enabling ice skating opportunities that the rink itself isn't able to manage.

In Cambridge, the Cambridge Ice Arena hosts the figure skating community's Patch/Training Ice as part of their published timetable, as well as associated memberships. Private coaching also takes place on Training Ice. The rink also hosts a Learn to Skate Programme, for those looking to get into the sport and achieve the level required for Patch Ice and beyond.

Our club hosts more specialised sessions outside of typical Patch Ice, including Galas, Ice Dance Socials, Short Track Speed Skating and Open Competitions. Explore our website to find out more!

Organisation

As a British Ice Skating affiliated club, we are bound by our constitution, BIS code of conduct and safeguarding policy. All members are required to agree to our policy documents when they register.

The active set of documents can be found at the bottom of our Club Membership Registration Form. Club Members can view past AGMs here.

You may notice that the Cambridge Ice Skating Club is structured a little differently from most other clubs. We are the first UK club to host all of the disciplines recognised by BIS. To manage this, we implement a centralised club committee that oversees the organisation's overall direction and finances. This central committee works with per discipline sub-committees.

Committee

The implementation of these policies and delivery of the club and its sessions is overseen by a democratically elected committee of volunteers.

We are always looking for support in running the club - if you'd like to get involved - particularly a role held by someone in an interim capacity - please reach out!
